Recording On PowerMac

I'm looking for a way to record sound from a telephone line on Mac using
Linux.   Does anyone know of a Linux app that will record from the
internal modem?

Even a Linux app that lets you use your internal modem as a speakerphone
would probably suffice, as I don't imagine it would be too difficult to
record the sound from that.   Anyone have any ideas?

I would prefer a Linux app, but an app for classic Mac OS would suffice
as well.
