Ah, ok.. I was surprised that you had a different alsa version than
mine, even though we have the same kernel. But alsactl actually gives
you the version of the alsa tools, not of the used alsa drivers.

ruben@guava ~ $ cat /proc/asound/version 
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.11rc4 (Wed Mar 22 10:27:24 2006 UTC).

This gives the used driver version.
