That was a good idea. I copied all the modules under
/lib/modules/2.6.16farm/kernel/sound/ppc/snd-aoa/ and ran depmod -a. I
can now load the modules.

Unfortunately I had no /dev/dsp, although I would have had expected it to
have been created automagically. To try a quick fix, I did:

sudo ln -s /dev/.static/dev/dsp /dev/dsp
sudo chmod 755 /dev/.static/
 
I then realised that I did not have alsa installed. But after  

sudo apt-get install alsa-utils alsa-base
sudo dpkg-reconfigure linux-sound-base

and of course un-muting the alsamixer,

It works !!
