Hi Mark,I'd suggest you get a Ubuntu Breezy/ppc install disc (or it's live version if you just want to test it) from ubuntu.com and install that.
Ubuntu is more or less Debian preconfigured for desktop usage. That should solve most, if not all, your issues. Best regards, Maxi
