Sid

in my /etc/apt/sources.list I changed testing to unstable and did a dist-upgrade, that brought me to sid right? The reason I ask is because when I did a dist upgrade from woody my login changed from Debian 3.0 to Debian 3.1, and it is still at Debian 3.1.

The reason I did this is I am trying to install daenzer's sid xserver, however I have been trying all day to apt-get update with deb http://people.debian.org/~daenzer/dri-trunk-sid/ ./ in my sources.list and have been unable to connect to that. I poked around in links, (because lynx was driving me mad), and came across a page that said that and some other debian servers were down, but I was unable to find out when that was written, is this the case?

Next thing, going on some advice I got privately from Ben Herrenschmidt, I am tring to get a 2.6.11 kernel, and not being able to find one in aptitude that had a name kernel-image-2.x.x that noted it was a 2.6.11 I just installed the 2.6.11 kernel-tree and kernel-source and kernel-patches. I have a couple questions here. I have a dual proccessor, now I haven't tried this one, but I did compile a couple of the 2.6.11.6 kernels from kernel.org last night, and they had an option for multiple (CPU's Maybe?) But in the reading I understood it to be multiple processors, and then when that's checked there was an option below that I know said CPU, and since CCPU is central processing unit, I figured that was the processors, though it defaulted to 25, I set it to 2, because I only have two. Did I get that right? What patches do I need to use, or is it a trial and error thing? I don't remember at this point but I want to compile on support for the ati 128 Rage Pro, if it's even possible to do that as a module instead, does that need to be put into /etc/modules to get frame buffer support for the kernel, and if I do that, should I be able to use video=aty128fb at login? Thus far I have only been able to login with video=ofonly and x keeps complaining about no frame buffer. Please any thoughts?
