Everything works nicely, on AC power I can close the lid and the machine sleeps, this is with a USB mouse and ethernet cable plugged in. When I open the lid the machine wakes up and everything seems to work fine, including the mouse :) I get the same results using the battery. I've tested long periods of sleep, about eight hours at a time and the machine wakes up with no problems. The only kernel panic I got was when I unplugged the mouse during sleep. The machine paniced when it work up but I expected this behaviour. I'm gonna go give it a go with the debian 2.6.9 source. Thanks for all the hard work, it's nice to have a sleeping ppc machine.
