xcdroast - cdrecord broken on ibook 2.2

Hi list,

when trying to burn cd's on my ibook 900 combo with debian unstable
xcdroast spits out a strange cdrecord error and refuses to burn:

---snip----

Calling: /usr/lib/xcdroast/bin/xcdrwrap CDRECORD dev= "ATAPI:0,1,0"
gracetime=2 fs=4096k driveropts=burnfree -v -useinfo speed=24 -dao
-eject -pad -data "/usr/datastorage/track-01.iso" ...

scsidev: 'ATAPI:0,1,0'
devname: 'ATAPI'
scsibus: 0 target: 1 lun: 0

cdrecord: Illegal write mode for this drive.
and thus may have bugs that are not present in the original version.

burning used to work with xcdroast, and i have little knowledge how it
works, thus also about what to do.

any ideas

cheers float
