This should be the responsability of discover, i think, not sure.

Fill a bug report against debian-installer with this info for start, so
it gets fixed. Also, you could try the 2.6 d-i, not sure it would work,
but there has been some fixes about this kind of issues which did go in.
Maybe Jens can comment on those ?
