I recently tried two live CDs, but I had a different goal (I wanted to
back up a couple of MacOS 9 installations to an NFS server).

Both of these booted fine on a blue & white G3 and a gray & white G4:

A PPC variant of Knoppix:
    http://debian.tu-bs.de/knoppix/powerPC/knx-pcc-2003-07-13_4.iso
(note it really is "pcc" and not "ppc")

The Gentoo live CD:
    http://<preferred Gentoo mirror site>/releases/ppc/2004.1/livecd/install-ppc-universal-2004.1.iso

For my purposes, the Gentoo CD was superior, since its kernel has the
hfsplus filesystem module and the Knoppix image doesn't. Since I only
needed to use a root shell, I can't comment on either one's support
for X/Gnome/KDE etc.
