Hi, thanks for the pointers, Jens and Colin.
The 2.6.6 kernel fails to boot completely, reporting:
VFS: Cannot open root device "hda12" or unknown-block(0,0)
Rebooting in 180 seconds...
hda12 is ext3 formatted.
It boots fine on a stock 2.4.25 kernel. My yaboot.conf has
boto=/dev/hda9
device=/pci@....
partition=12
root=/dev/hda12
etc.
Anyone come across this problem?
