clamshell and AV out in linux

has anyone got their clamshell ibook (firewire or SE)
to work with av out in linux.

i only recently discovered that the headphone jack is
infact an all in one multimedia marvel*

*this marvel may or may not be marvelous and could just
be a money making scheme to make people buy a silly cable.

any good websites on getting it to work?
obviously the apple site shows you how to do it in macos9
and macosx - but theres none of that here!
