actually xine stutters in every second time I try to play sound using
alsa (the same as mplayer...).

Wow. I wish I could say that too. Although I followed your tutorial on
how to get dmix running (which actually works perfect when I only need
to use alsa apps) quiet a lot does not work:
starting esd segfaults:
$ AUDIODEV=default esd
Segmentation fault
mplayer/xine/totem all don't work with alsa... only alsaplayer and xmms
work ok.
mixerwise one cannot turn on maximum volume as sounds get distorted...
But well yes it works in oss emulation pretty stable (with mplayer/xine
etc).
