Debian Sarge Installation on Powermac 8600

I've been trying to get Debian installed on a Powermac 8600 with the
following specs:
Powermac 8600
256MB RAM
G4 400 Upgrade Card
ATI Radeon 7000 PCI
2GB + 1GB SCSI drives
/chaos/control model
I've been fighting with it for months. I can get the kernel to boot and
have command-line access but X will not work properly. I have to use
the ofonly option to get the video to work properly on boot but X never
works and when it does the video is all crunched to half the screen.
"dmesg" shows some conflicts with the onboard video and the radeon. I
would like to be able to run the radeon with 3d support using DRI but
so far I can't even really get X working.
I plan on installing a PCI SATA controller card eventually and I'm not
opposed to using OS9 and BootX.
Does anybody have any pointers, step-by-step guides, anything at all on
getting this setup working?
I'm going to start a fresh install once I get a response and go from
there.
