Does the preformance gain from optimizing for G3 warrant the extra package?

Your idea has some validity since the current situation is less than
ideal - there is a generic kernel that most people recompile and
hand-tweak for their systems as one of the first post-installation
steps. However, adding a kernel-image package for even the major
families of Apple machines would just bloat the archive beyond
usability. And that doesn't even take into account the other
manufacturers of powerpc systems.

Recently, a slightly different idea popped up on debian-private. Have
a package that depends on the kernel source, contains or pulls in
appropriate patches, guides the user through a selection of .config
files, and finally builds and installs a kernel semi-automatically.

Regards, Jens.
