There's a problem right there:  3.0 has been the only reliable compiler lately.  
Meanwhile, 3.3 produces broken kernels and 3.2 has already been slated for an
early retirement.

The whole story reminds me of the transition from 2.7.2 to 2.8.1.  In the end,
the 2.2 kernel series has been hardcoded to depend upon gcc272.  That should
have taught a few people a lesson in hastily adopting new GCC versions.
Apparently, people never learn...
