X on powerbook 3400c

hi,

i have problem starting X - installed debian woody 3.0 on my powerbook 
3400c (boot reported Chips 65550, 1024k videoram).
the problems i think lies in setting correctly vsync and hsync in config 
file (i guess). i can start x server with 640x480 256 colors - and that 
is not exactly desired :) does anybody have this powerbook running some 
800x600 16bpp??

when i play with hsync, vsync the server freezes (the whole linux and i 
have to restart), or wont even start...... ( on web i found some 
references to set vsync to 53-69 -> however, that worked only with 
640x480 :( )

please help :)
