this means that you have everything working well.

The page imply you have some piece of windowmanager installed
before trying to get X woking:

apt-get install wmaker

and then redo everything you did so far and proceed
with what you find on the page.
When you get this working, I suggest you to try
something like gnome, which I guess you'd like better.
