Re: X won't start

Oh! You're using an http-proxy? I'm sorry, perhaps I missed that
fact from the start of the thread.

You'll need to setup http proxy settings. In /etc/apt/apt.conf you
should put something like:

Acquire::HTTP::Proxy "http://user:password@http.proxy.address";;;

Or, just to test (without editing that file) you can set the
"http_proxy" environment variable to that same value. The environment
variable will override the settings in apt.conf, btw.

I tried doing that and got errors. Not sure what to put in as "proxy.address"

What I put in was exactly:

Acquire::HTTP::Proxy "http://MyUserName:MyPassword@http.proxy.e.benefis.org";;;

where e.benefis.org is our domain

alternatively, after running lynx to password through the firewall, I was able to get apt-get update to run and upgraded to woody (Debian3 shows on bootup)

Then when I asked for startx

I got

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xserverrc: /usr/bin/X11/X: No such file or directory
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xserverrc: exec: /usr/bin/X11/X: cannot execute: No such file or directory giving up.
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit No such process (errno 3): Server error.

Not sure what I need to install to overcome this?

Thanks.
