	I had seen this before on a PMac 9500/180MP with a imstt card,
	when I was using the fbdev. In my case, switching to console
	(say Ctrl-Alt-F1) and back to X resolved this issue every
	time.

	I don't know if it will work with the ati adapter, but perhaps
	you could try this?
