So shift-alt/option is the 'AltGr' a lot of people are desperately
looking for. :)

Sure, this is the information i'am looking for since many days !
Now my french keyboard can do  "~[{}] ........." ;-)
For people which has the same problem do :
   xmodmap -e 'keycode 115 = Meta_L Multi_key'
   xmodmap -e 'keycode 64 = Alt_L Mode_switch'
