Many months ago I found this error too; now I don't remember the way I
solved   it    but,   if   this    can   help   you,   this    is   my
/etc/X11/app-defaults/XDvi

XDvi*mfMode: ljfour
XDvi*pixelsPerInch: 600
XDvi*shrinkFactor: 8
XDvi*paper: a4
XDvi*wwwBrowser: netscape
XDvi*thorough: true
