You may get a more detailed message on virtual console 4, when debootstrap
stops.  Several people have had some kind of problem such as this, but
as far as I know no one has run it to the ground.

You can also try booting with the debug and verbose boot arguments to see if
more detailed messages result. You would add these by typing , e.g.

install debug verbose
 
at the boot: prompt rather than just install.
