I've seen such a problem at the console also, but I'm not certain what
keys were pressed when it started.  If I swich from X to a VC, an
endless series of "[B"s immediately starts piling up on the VC's login
prompt at the key-repeat rate.  If I then switch back to X, it stops.
"[B" is issued when the downarrow key is pressed, but I'm not conscious
of having used that key prior to switching (though it's possible.)

kernel 2.4.18-newpmac+freeswan, ibook2 600, internal QWERTY.
