According to 

docs.apple.info.com/article.html?artnum=112349

the 5260 was only capable of 640x480. So they may very well have had
a non-multi-sync monitor with it. Actually Apple didn't start building
multi-sync monitors until late 1994.

You need a multi-sync monitor, a PC monitor would work with an adapter 
for the cable.
