BTW, I finally switched from 3.3.6 to 4.1.x on my LongTrail with RAGE II+
(running Debian/testing).

Wy am I not surprised that enabling use of the frame buffer device doesn't do
anything? The X server logs says it still doesn't use the frame buffer device,
and fbset confirms that (fbset tells me a very different mode than xdpyinfo).
