You probably mean the hfsplus utils. You can find them in Debian in
the package "hfsplus" in woody or sid.

I'm afraid they are the best solution available right now. There is no
stable working HFS+ driver for the kernel.  For users who must coexist
with MacOS, it's best to use HFS when possible.
