Well, it's already doing unsigned -> signed and 8 -> 16 bit conversions in
the driver. It may be a bad thing for an application to just blindly
assume that the driver knows what to do with the audio format it wants,
but there is other stuff out there that does the same, for better or
worse. (I know the PPC version of the CivCTP demo seems to do the same
thing.)
