All right. Is the special casing of the PReP machines obsolete, too or
should I keep it?

Yes, I'm building a fixed package at the moment. This was not related with
this thread but a thinko (I replaced
ifeq ($(arch), powerpc)
with
ifeq ($(arch), powerpc nohwclock)
in debian/rules... :-((( ).
