German Keyboard under X 4.1.0 on iBook2

Hi,

Xfree86 seems to work nicely (graphics, mouse) except that I simply cannot
login, because no key yields the expected result!

I'm using Woody (dist-upgraded from Potato). I tried a debian kernel
image 2.4.8 and Benh's 2.4.12 Kernel and the debian xserver. On the
console the keyboard is working.

The keyboard section of my XF86Config-4 file is

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier      "Generic Keyboard"
        Driver          "keyboard"
        Option          "CoreKeyboard"
        Option          "XkbRules"      "xfree86"
        Option          "XkbModel"      "macintosh"
        Option          "XkbLayout"     "de"
EndSection

Instead of "macintosh" I tried "pc101" and "pc104" and instead of "de" I
tried "us". 

Does anyone know why this doesn't work?
