ssh stopped working

Greetings,

Because of network problems, I didn't upgrade sid between mid-July and three days ago. Then when I upgraded, I could no longer ssh into my Debian sid i386 boxes, I get:

% ssh lyre
ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

In that time, of course, the i386 boxes had moved on, I think the switch to default to protocol 2 happened in that period, and I think I had to upgrade over 200 packages, so anything could have caused the problem. Funny thing is, the version on the powermac is newer than what's available for i386 (I love it when that happens :-). But 2.9-4 vs. 2.9-5 shouldn't cause that much breakage, right? And the problem persists when I manually edit ssh_config to force it to use protocol 2.

Oh- and I can ssh into the powermac, just not from it to an i386. Any ideas or similar experiences?

Zeen,
