(Warning: most of my playing with this is on my 486, but I
vaguely remember getting it to build on my G4. I've built so many
kernels on both machines lately trying to get IPSEC to work I
don't even remember *what* I'm running right now.)

If you're talking about patching the stock kernel sources, it
works. You start with the 2.4.3 tarball, apply the patch, then
patch that up to the desired version. One hunk will not work in
the Makefile in the 2.4.5 patch; fix it by hand. It was obvious
enough that even I could work it out. :)
