I dont know what the on disk format is, they may have kept the big endian
format, after all one would assume they would want disks to be compatible
between those used on irix boxen and those used on linux, however the code
itself that runs in the linux kernel for XFS had to be ported to linux, when
they first released XFS it was code that woudl not run on the linux kernel
without work, the work as I understand it was done on x86, and as is the norm
they did not initially have non x86 compatible code that ran in the linux
kernel, they may by now though (someone mentioned it works on sparc now so I
assume ppc also should work by now)

The on disk format is unrelated to the code that runs in some given system to
create that format (too a large extent)
