I wouldn't go that far.  7.5.3 (r2 for PCI Power Macs) was really
good.  7.5.5 was mostly a virtual memory speedup and a few minor
bugfixes, I think (definitely worthwhile for the VM, though).  If you
use these, make sure you upgrade to Open Transport 1.1.2 and (if
necessary) the latest LaserWriter 8 driver.

7.6 was nice, but the update to 7.6.1 is essential; a few people hit
showstoppers with 7.6.

But 8.0, except for the multi-threaded Finder, had to be the biggest
non-event in recent Apple history.  Of course, they only revved the
major version to end the contracts with the clone makers.

Boy, this does seem like ancient history since I switched to Linux.
