Unable to create/save/open/delete files as root
HELP THIS IS URGENT
I have a problem of not being able to create/save/open or delete any
file on my / partition.
Last night i compiled the 2.4.3 kernel. Once I rebooted with the new
kernel init was showing lots of errors with the partitions, modules
and other stuff. It also didn't mount /proc.
Once booted I logged in as a user tried to create a document with
touch and got an error similar to:
"Error: read only filesystem"
I then tried root and got the same error. Chown or chmod have not been used.
The kernel was changed back to 2.2.18.
I can open, save and create files on a small hfs partition called
downloads (15MB)this information should help.
