I even tried loading the modules fbcon-cfb8, fbcon-cfb16, fbcon-cfb24
manually in the kernel but it doesn't help. Am I missing some option

P.S. Which of the precompiled fonts:
CONFIG_FONT_8x16=y
CONFIG_FONT_SUN8x16=y
CONFIG_FONT_SUN12x22=y
are used in the frame buffer console and how can I make it switch
from one set to another?
