Ok, I got it working using Claus's (I think) XF86Config from a few months back on linuxppc mailing list..

all is going well, but I have one problem - I only have one mouse button... is there a way to map mouse buttons to keyboard keys (like F3 and F4), like I do in Xpmac?

(and yes, I am reading some docs right now)
