XFree86 4.01 will save and restore color maps on VT switch when the
UseFBDev option is used (see Michel's post). And I don't see any point in
not using that option even assuming the X server can handle everything by
itself in a sane way. 

Please don't try to stick specialized code like this into yaboot. This
needs to be handled by the framebuffer driver, and there's no reason why
it needs to be done before framebuffer init.
