Hrm... By "older" PowerBook, you mean a "first generation" also called
"3500" ? 

with 2.2.17pre20-ben1/2, you should have the initial console displayed
too (a few more lines). Does it stop at "booting..." completely or does
it go any further ?

Which version of BootX are you using ? (Or are you using Quick ?)
