I don't believe this is the approach being taken by runit.  They've
introduced a handful of *-run packages to start as daemon with runit
instead, and I think some other packages just ship the runit integration
directly in the package.

If runit works the way that I believe that it does, it will similarly do
much better with dedicated configuration than with trying to run sysvinit
scripts for some of the same reasons as systemd.  For instance, it would
much prefer if services didn't background themselves and instead stayed in
the foreground so that they could be more easily monitored.
