The next version of dpkg has --force-bad-version to work around this.

I'm not sure it's highly constructive to ask Guillem to revert the change
at this point since the impact on Debian is very low and a way has been
provided to install packages with bad versions.

Please reconsider. I think it's been well explained that version numbers
ought to start with a "number".
