It's all the same, we can't fix the same bug in 2 different ways so
there's no point in having 2 bugs.

You can voice your opinion that you prefer fixing it by breaking all
packages but that's all. If you really want to impose this rule to all
packages, have the policy changed first but we're not going to break all
package instantly.

You did not look well enough:

This is in 2008. It has been stalled because I tried to embrace other
bugs while introducing this new field and there was no consensus for this
apparently. I shall retry with more limited goals but that's it. If you
want to help here, it's not by discussing things further but by having the
right branch ready to merge.
