Updated the Makefile example to work with whitespace and comma
separated values, without using the shell:
ifneq (,$(filter parallel=%,$(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS)))
COMMA = ,
NUMJOBS := $(patsubst parallel=%,%,$(filter parallel=%,$(subst $(COMMA), ,$(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS))))
MAKEFLAGS = -j $(NUMJOBS)
endif
