This because there is no exclusion of /usr/lib/totem when doing
dh_makeshlibs. I had the same with a xulrunner component containing a
dash.
The thing is that libsomething-version.so is as much a valid scheme as
libsomething.so.version. So dpkg-makeshlibs thinks "plugin" in
libtotem-something-plugin.so is the version.
