In other words, purely aesthetic (which in turn implies subjective).
Anyway, I solved the clutter problem back in the eighties.  The only
things in my $HOME are a bunch of dotfiles and a small handful of
subdirectories.  (Just don't ask how cluttered some of those
subdirectories are.:)

So, on the plus side, we have some purely aesthetic considerations,
which don't even benefit some people (i.e. me), and on the minus,
we've got the potential for massive confusion and breakage.

While I agree in general with the principle that new and radical ideas
should at least be given a fair hearing, that does not mean they
should automatically be accepted.  In this case, for example, I have
heard quite a lot, and am still firmly convinced that the idea should
be soundly rejected.
