I have to agree. If I set $EDITOR or $VISUAL to the editor I want, and
some "integrated" application overrides that, it most certainly gets
removed from my system. I honestly can't believe someone would suggest
overriding a admin/user's choice in any way shape or form. What I've
read of this proposal indicates just that, the overriding of a specified
choice.
