The point I was trying to make is that if debian/control is not to be used,
then there must be a reason for that. The reason for that would presumably
be that debian/control may not be what/where it is now in some later
incarnation of source packages. And if debian/control went somewhere else,
then there's no reason why debian/ wouldn't go somewhere else as well.
Thus making debian/interface just as volatile, except that there's two files
to worry about (control and interface) rather than just one.

(FWIW, I've seen doogie mention thinking of moving debian/ to dpkg/ at some
point.)
