At one point this was recommended by one of our guides..
mail-transport-agent is a good example of that policy.
IMHO it turned out to be a bad idea, look at the package file, there is a
mismash of foo | mail-transport-agent, some packages even still seem to
use smail!
These days I'd just as soon not bother with the |. APT and dselect both
select the highest priority package of all providing packages to
automatically install.
