As such, I recommend that we change this bug title to:

"dynamic creation of libx.so.n"

As this is the next issue at hand. In order to utilise the benefits,
it should be possible to install multiple versions of the library at
the same time, which means that the above symlink has to be created
dynamically.

update-alternatives might be a good approach to use here.
