Yech. What's wrong with 'dpkg -S /etc/profile'?

Of course, this won't find it if is managed by the maintainer scripts
rather than being a dpkg conffile, in which case you're stuck grepping
(or perling) /var/lib/dpkg/info/*.postinst....
