I have a recollection (somewhat vague) that I may have volunteered for this
when talking to Ian over a few pints, at the UKUUG thing last weekend.
I certainly would prefer to be volunteering for the role of chief policy
anarchist, than signing up to being the author of every new phrase that is
added to the policy manual.
I'd see the main role as having someone that at some point in a discussion
gets to say:
You seem to have a workable description of the emerging
consensus, please write it up as a policy change and submit it
to the list for final approval
I'd also like to have a few volunteers who are willing to be stand ins (on a
discussion by discussion basis), for when I was either too close to the problem
being discussed to be impartial, or to busy to deal with it.
For example, at some point qmail's odd directory situation is going to need
to be discussed (especially in light of the var-qmail thing that Dan
has just done). I could not be ``Presiding Anarchist'' during that discussion,
because I'd have too much to say, and some people would (probably wrongly ;-)
give more weight to what I said, solely because of the job title.
